LET’S STAND TOGETHER AGAINST INJUSTICE

ONE MORE RAPE CASE

The recent incident involving the abuse of a female dog named Cheenu in Kalina is deeply troubling and highlights the urgent need to protect vulnerable stray animals. The perpetrator, Toufeek Ahmed, a hawker selling bread and pavs, was identified engaging in this heinous act against stray dogs at midnight. This case came to light thanks to surveillance cameras initially installed to catch car parts thieves, which inadvertently captured Toufeek’s actions.

Sonia, a volunteer, played a crucial role by sending the video evidence to Animal Rescue and Care. In response, representatives from the organization promptly visited the Vakola police station to report this shameful incident. The collaboration and assistance of Shankar, Raghavan, and Suraj, a local resident of Vakola, were instrumental in the swift handling of this case.

The police, under the guidance of ACP Sudhir Kudalkar and Inspector Mithun Patil of the Vakola Police Station, showed commendable support and efficiency. They promptly visited the area to check on Cheenu, who was found to be traumatized and fearful. Cheenu was then sent to BSPCA for medical examination and care, with Pragati and Sonia accompanying her.

Savita Mahajan, the Founder of Animal Rescue and Care, filed an FIR against Toufeek Ahmed. Unfortunately, the circulation of the video gave Toufeek the opportunity to flee to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh, and his mobile phone has been switched off. However, the Vakola police are making concerted efforts to apprehend him as soon as possible.

This case not only underscores the need for vigilance in our communities to protect stray animals but also highlights the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between volunteers, animal rescue organizations, and law enforcement in addressing such grievous offenses. The prompt response and support from the police, especially ACP Sudhir Kudalkar and Inspector Mithun Patil, are particularly noteworthy.
